I bought Norton Systemworks 2005 and am having trouble activating it. Every time i try to activate, i get the error message 'Your current security settings prohibit running active x controls on this page. As a result the page may not display properly'. I have tried changing settings, have been on the phone with Symantec (whose techs know nothing) and I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times.I always get the same result. I have a Gateway 1300 running windows XP SP2. Prior to this I had Systemworks 2004 installed and that worked fine. I have gone in and removed all traces of 2004 before installing 2005. Assuming you are still using IE, have you tried setting the Security level to 'Default' in the Internet Zone? I think that's the one that turns ActiveX back on, although I'm not certain because I don't use IE. If none of that helps, there is the 'nuclear option' of clearing all Symantec products and starting again (assuming you have the program on CD).Symantec products often have installation problems, even if you are sure you removed all earlier versions. I believe that there are some programs that prevent IE settings from changing, whether installed for the users protection or as malware, usually to prevent security from being increased, not reduced like you are trying to do. An example of the first would be the IE Tweaks settings in Spybot S&D, do you have that installed? There are ways to repair or reinstall IE but they may require Registry editing at some point, so it would be best to wait for an experienced XP user to comment on that.
